Hello and welcome to the Beccles Neighbourhood Plan web site.
You will find on this site information about the Beccles plan and progress we are making.
Our aim is to engage with the community so that we provide an opportunity to get your views on the future of Beccles and what is important to you and your family / business.
A Neighbourhood Plan looks forward in time for the next 20 years or so. It is therefore a long-term plan that gives the people who live, work and play in Beccles the chance to influence the way our town develops and what you see and important to the future of our town.
What is a Neighbourhood Plan?
Neighbourhood planning is a way for communities to help shape the future of the places where they live and work. Therefore, the plan is intended to be a community – led planning framework for guiding the future development regeneration and conservation of an area. The Neighbourhood Plan cannot be used to stop development but can be used to influence development based on what the community wants.
It can deal with a range of social, economic and environmental issues such as housing, employment and infrastructure. There may be other issues specific to an area.
So, in other words it allows the people, organisations and businesses in the area to have a say in the future development of their town. The Neighbourhood Plan would be used to provide the communities input and views so that local development decisions made by governing bodies have a clear view of what the community wants.
As the Neighbourhood Plan will be part of the statutory development plan for the area it gives weight to shape future decisions.
Beccles Neighbourhood Plan so far.
Over the past 18 months the Beccles Neighbourhood Plan Operational Group have engaged the community in seeking their input on what they feel is important for the towns future.
We have been present in schools, shops and a range of other community hubs gathering people’s views. We have also had public meetings in the market place and library.
Additionally, there is a monthly meeting on the last Monday of each month in Beccles Library at 10.am. We have advertised this both with posters in the town, features in the local press and by posting leaflets detailing how to get involved to the vast majority of households in Beccles.
All the above work has allowed us to produce our draft Visions and Aims document which can be found on this site.
The Vision and Aims document outlines the views we have gathered thus far and gives an idea of how we see Beccles develop over the coming years.
We now want to work with you and your organisation to allow you to have your say.
We would welcome your thoughts and views so that we can ensure we have a true community lead document where as many local people as possible have had the opportunity to comment on the Vision and Aims statement. We meet once a month and your welcome to come and join us at any time.
